People from all over the world come to visit the famous swiss mountain trains like "Glacier Express" or "Bernina Express" of the "Rhaetische Bahn (RhB)" railway company.
The Bernina-Express connects the northern parts of Grison with the border of Italy. Once you do the tour from St. Moritz down to the italian city of Tirano will return one day to repeat the experience.
The Bernina-line is the only swiss railway across the alps without a tunnel. At the highest point at "Ospizio Bernina" (2.253 meters) you ride along the "White Lake" and the "Black Lake". After a few minutes the station of "Alp Grüm" is reached and you will have a breathtaking view down south along the Valposchiavo. The next adventure begins. The train is climbing down the mountains, passes the valley's capital "Poschiavo", the "Lake of Poschiavo" and reaches in the end the italian border and the city of "Tirano" (429 meters).
The difference between the highest and the lowest point of the railway is 1.824 meters. The distance by air is only 22 kilometers. That is why you find a lot of interesting bridges along the railway like the famous circle at Brusio.
The Bernina-Express is one of the most exciting train trips and the best connection between the Swiss alps and the mediterranian "Lake Como" or "Lake Lugano".
